Why do I even think that I can write?
I've been engaged in total distraction mode for the last week and luckily Netflix continues to feed me a constant stream of mindless diversion. One such diversion comes in the form of "13 Reasons Why", the latest binge-watchable release from our beloved video streaming masters. The show tells the story -- narrated by a recently deceased-by-suicide friend by cassette tape -- of a group of teenagers at the all-American high school, each with their own set of secrets. Each episode unlocks another secret, piecing together the puzzle that is their lives. I've been trying to summarize in my mind a good combo of other shows, one of those this meets that analogies and can't seem to find any formula that comprehensively describes how it works. Heathers meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Pump Up The Volume plus DeGrassi High? Freaks and Geeks and Gossip Girl have a deformed baby? I think about all these analogies and I remember Mom.
